Young Plastic Surgeons Committee

Supporting the next generation of plastic surgeons as they begin their professional journey

The Young Plastic Surgeons Committee provides support and guidance for newly qualified plastic surgeons in the transition from being a Trainee to gaining the experience they need to achieve a successful career in Plastic Surgery. The Committee identifies and disseminates resources, mentorship and collaboration opportunities and provides webinars and virtual events featuring early-career plastic surgeons.

The Committee currently focuses on two primary goals:

Young Plastic Surgeons Mentorship Program

Dr. Susana Benetiz, Chair of the Young Plastic Surgeons Committee, leads the ICOPLAST Young Plastic Surgeons Mentorship Program establishing structured mentorship to advance educational leadership, institutional governance, and clinical innovation. Structured mentorship has been shown to be critical to producing the next generation of competent, passionate, and successful surgeons, with impacts on research productivity, leadership attainment, and career satisfaction.

The ICOPLAST Mentorship Program is an online program with the opportunity to also progress to person-to-person mentorship opportunities.

In the first phase, the committee is compiling a database of available Mentorship opportunities for 2027, and we warmly invite you to share the Become a Young Plastic Surgeons Mentor form below with your members and return to us by 30 November 2026.

Opportunities for Young Plastic Surgeons to avail of one of the mentorship opportunities in 2027 will be available in the coming months.
