Influence of plastic surgeon gender on decision making in breast reconstruction

Great ICOPLAST panel on the influence of the plastic surgeon’s gender in the decision-making process of breast reconstruction on May 11th at the @euromicro2024 congress in Milan.

Organized and coordinated by Marzia Salgarello, ICOPLAST representative for Europe, it saw the discussion of 5 female microsurgeons and 5 male microsurgeons who expressed their personal opinions on the topic.

Among them were Joshua Levine (NY), Stefania Tuinder (Maastricht), Jaume Masia (Barcelona), Andrea Moreira (NY), Rieka Taghizadeh (U.K). Exceptional discussants were Peter Neligan and Sinikka Suominen, the result was a “gender equity” scenario where the winner is above all talent and the ability to listen to female patients to build together a patient-friendly reconstruction.
